Does my business need a data logging service?

The advantages of using a web-based data logger

Many business executives, whether they manage grocery stores, medical offices, restaurants or galleries, want to feel in control of their inventory, products, and spaces. A web-based data monitoring service can remotely monitor temperature and humidity, giving peace of mind that products are protected and environmental conditions are where they need to be. We’ve found that there are five key advantages to a data logging service:

Catch problems early

If you want to save time and money, it’s important to find and fix problems before they get worse. If environmental conditions aren’t right, products or inventory could be damaged or even completely ruined. A web-based data logging system is always up and running, measuring conditions and alerting you precisely when data is beyond the normal threshold.

Automatic instead of manual

A web-based data logger eliminates the need for employees to walk around and manually record temperatures. An employee doesn’t even need to gather the temperature sensors, connect them to a USB and download the data. Instead, all data is automatically transmitted to a PC or mobile device. This saves employee time and also makes the data more easily accessible.  This is also ideal for businesses where sensors need to be placed in remote, spread out or difficult to reach places.

Real time alerts

Most scalable data logging systems come with built-in alerts. This means that when data goes above or below a normal threshold, an alert will be generated via email or text message. This way, you are notified the minute environmental conditions are deteriorating and can take action to prevent damage. At ACL Solutions, we’ve built a sophisticated escalation system. Not only does the system generate alerts but there is a chain of people notified. That way, if someone is on vacation or unavailable, the next person in the chain will be notified. Other data loggers come with internal alarms or buzzers but we’ve found that those create unwanted disruption at work (no one likes to work with a loud buzzer) and don’t reach the right people. Also, if the device buzzes over a long holiday weekend when no one is in the office, the alarm will fall on deaf ears.

Reporting

One of the key advantages of a data logging system, opposed to relying on a simple device like a thermometer, is that you can view trends over time. Graphs and tables of results can be produced automatically by the data logging software. This is important for identifying patterns of behavior or performance retrospectively, and making improvements.

Scalable solution

Last, many web-based data loggers, including ACL Solution’s data logger, are built to scale. If you have many points of measurement, it will start to become too expensive to have a standalone device measure each point. Instead, with our solution, you can add new sensors any time you’d like to measure a new location. Plus, all the sensors are connected on the same system, so you can review trends for each location in one dashboard.

If your business has more than four measuring locations and you want peace of mind that your valuables are protected, you should strongly consider a web-based data logger. At ACL Solutions, we’ve built a web-based data logger that is professional, robust, easy to use, and most importantly affordable.
